Qld: Educators to investigate school leavers rate
A team of senior Queensland educators will investigate the state's school system to
try to keep more students at school until the end of year 12.
Education Minister ANNA BLIGH says a team headed by Board of Senior Secondary School
Studies director JOHN PITMAN will assess how to increase year 12 completion rates.
The current rate is 68 per cent and it hopes that will increase to 88 per cent by 2010.
The Senior Certificate New Deal project will work towards developing a more flexible
senior certification system for high school students.
Ms BLIGH says high school students often juggle work, school and family commitments.
She says if young people are to complete their education, it must be ensured that the
senior certification system offers them flexibility.
